Welcome to Berni’s Blog
So what’s the point of this blog – “A Different Perspective”? Well, as I speak with some of the many people who listen to my radio programs around the world, there’s something … something that’s not quite right.
It’s something that we all know about, but don’t want to talk so much about. It’s as plain as the nose on our face, but we don’t know what to do about it. What is it?
Well, many people believe in God (actually most people do). But something’s missing. So many are longing for their faith – their faith in this Jesus who promises so much – to be real in their lives. Time and time again people say to me “You know Berni, I just want it to be real.”
Funny that. Because – surprise, surprise – that’s exactly what Jesus wants too. He came to set us free from the things that bind us. He came to heal our broken hearts. He came that we may live life in all it’s abundance (John 10:10 – literally “super abundance”). He came that we might have an intimate relationship with God Himself.
I remember when I first gave my life to Jesus back in 1995, I was bouncing around like a helium balloon. I was on top of the world and a good friend of mine – Phil – pulled me aside over coffee and said “Berni, you realise that it won’t always feel like this.”
In a sense of course he was right. Absolutely. Feelings come and go. But it made me angry too. Not with Phil, but with God.
So I went home and said to God “God – if I can’t have a close, intimate, real relationship with you 24/7, if I can’t experience your joy and live in your Presence every minute of every day, then I don’t want this Christianity thing!”
Of course there have been dry patches since then. There have been dark times too … plenty of those. There have been times when truly I’ve wondered “God where are you in all this … this mess that’s supposed to be my life?”
Looking back on it, it was such an impertinent prayer. What an ill-mannered tone to use with the Creator of the universe!
But you know something, come what may, He’s always honoured that rather impertinent prayer of mine. It’s the only time I’ve ever been “angry” with God in my life … and He honoured the heart that lay behind it. This insatiable desire that I have not just to know about God, but to know God Himself – His Presence and His power and His promises and His provision in all the circumstances – good and bad – in my life.
Since that day, I have always known that close, deep, intimate relationship with Him. He has been so incredibly faithful.
So … what’s this blog all about?
It’s about sharing that journey. It’s about having a conversation with one soul purpose (pardon the pun): that you and I might grow in a rich, dynamic relationship with Jesus; that His Spirit and His love would fill us to overflowing; that His grace and mercy would flow out of us into the hearts and lives of those around us.
And you know something, it’s a journey I’m really looking forward to.
You are one of my best finds on the Internet. Been walking with The Lord 27 years and enjoy the practical deliverance and spiritual insight of each article. I have forwarded many of your articles to family and friends. Too good to keep to myself. Thank you for the encouragement. It’s been a word in season.
Hi Michelle,
Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement.
🙂
Be blessed,
