Every now and then, a book comes along that sweeps you off your feet. Beautiful Battlefields by gifted communicator Bo Stern is one of those. Exquisitely written, it helps you make sense out of the suffering that you’re travelling through. Powerful. Poignant. This year’s must-read.
It’s absolutely true. Men and women struggle sometimes to understand one another. So in this blog post, all you women out there – I want to help you understand the “male ego” as it’s called.
Often, it gets a bad wrap. But it’s part of how we men are made, and any woman who understands it, has just unlocked the door to her man’s heart.
So, here goes …
Marriage is an awesome thing. It’s God’s plan for most of us. And part of that plan is for us to have a passionate marriage. “Hmm …” I can hear some people saying.
Let me shock you. It’s not just you. It’s not just your marriage.
Passion dies eventually … in 100% of marriages. 100% !! according to author and marriage counsellor Dr David Clarke. But there is something you can do about that.
Anyone who’s been married for any length of time will be able to tell you all about the brick wall that can grow up between this man and this woman who love each other so much. Left unchecked, one day they wake up and realise they’r living as strangers under the same roof. Divorce is now a very real possibility.
That was never God’s plan. Find out how you can stop that from happening – with 3 powerful things that you can do to tear down the wall in your marriage.
One brick at a time.
It is exactly 30 years ago today that I had my last cigarette. The 24th of January, 1983. This is the story of how I quit smoking.
It was early evening. I was in a hospital room as I watched someone die of cancer. She’d been a smoker earlier on in her life. The cancer had spread throughout her body. She’d left a note “make this end” – so they withdrew treatment, food and fluids.
I watched her take her last breath.
As I walked out of the room into the sterile, brightly lit hospital corridor, I threw the half full packet of cigarettes (Benson & Hedges Extra Mild) into the grey metal bin.
Cold turkey. I haven’t smoked since.
It won’t be long and the table will be set for Christmas. Yippee, but … well, there’s always one person we’d rather not invite, right?
I’m betting that you can picture that person’s face right now!
They’re difficult or awkward. They rub you the wrong way. And there’s every chance they’ll cause friction on what’s supposed to be a perfect, happy, relaxed family day – Christmas day after all.
So here’s the question – what would God have you do with that person, hmm?
Ever felt like cancelling Christmas?
I mean cast your eye around your local shopping mall. Each year, “Christmas” seems to get further and further away from what that first Christmas is all about. No good complaining about it. It is what it is. And on the inside, where we live … I’m not sure if you’ve noticed … it’s becoming more and more difficult to celebrate the awesome meaning of Christmas. So … why not cancel it altogether this year?
Most kids spend most of their time trying to squeeze as much out of their parents as possible. Especially teenagers. But did you know that God has a plan for them to get much, much more blessing from their parents than they ever imagined possible? It’s true!!
So if you have kids, share this blog post with them. Tell ’em – it’ll work every time!
These days there are so many distractions – social media, smartphones, tablet computers … iThis and iThat – that families are falling apart. If God offered you anything you wanted in this world, anything at all, what would you ask for? Tough question. Takes a bit of thinking about. A new car? A bigger house? Good health? A long life? There are so many things to choose from. What would you choose?
Within hours of putting our Quick Poll in the field, the Federal Government announced a wide reaching independent Royal Commission into child sexual abuse in all institutions, not just the Catholic Church. So – what were our poll results? And what does the church’s response say about … the church?
